Policy for E-mail Forwarding
Policy
webmail.nuim.ie is provided so staff and students can check NUI Maynooth e-mail accounts while not on campus. The webmail service may be accessed from any Internet browser. Persons seeking assistance on how to use webmail should contact the Computer Centre. Our policy for off-campus email access is as follows:
- Forwarding will NOT be set up to any web based [or commercial] e-mail accounts. webmail.may.ie can be used to access NUIM e-mail and the user can then transfer messages to another e-mail account if they need to keep a copy.
- If a user is away from the University for an extended period of time (6 months or more) and they need to keep records of their e-mail from various sources on one machine then they should contact the Computer Centre to see about the possibility of setting up e-mail forwarding. This will only be forwarded to non-commercial addresses, e.g. another university address.
Options:
- If a user is away from college for an extended period of time (3 to 6 months) an e-mail client software (Eudora light) could be provided and setup to check the NUI Maynooth e-mail account.
- Different e-mail client software can be setup to access the NUI Maynooth e-mail account (Please note that CC will not support all e-mail client programs). Please NOTE: It is possible to check incoming e-mail, but to send mails you need an email account with an Internet Service Provider.
