Computer Centre Statement on Microsoft Windows 7 and MS-Office 2007 / 2010
Microsoft Operating Systems and Microsoft Office applications change at regular intervals and as a result we find that we have a number of different versions of MS-Windows and MS-Office installed on the PCs in NUI Maynooth.
When we introduced the latest models of desktop and laptop computers during summer 2010 we decided to install MS-Windows 7 and MS-Office 2010 on the new computers.
We have received a number of requests recently to upgrade existing desktop and laptop computers to MS-Windows 7 or MS-Office 2007. The upgrade process to MS-Windows 7 and MS-Office 2007 includes several technical steps, which can be different from PC to PC, and can take a considerable amount of time. Upgrading existing desktop and laptop computers to MS-Windows 7 or MS-Office 2007 is possible only in very special circumstances.
Technical Support of MS-Windows 7 and MS-Office 2007 will be provided by the Computer Centre. Training will be provided either online or through workshops from Staff Development. For more information please check the Moodle space entitled “Transition to MS-Office 2007”.
MS-Office 2010 is available but we do not recommend installing MS-Office 2010 for the time being. Support for MS-Office 2010 cannot be provided by the Computer Centre.
